Ok, so it's been months, I know. I'm sorry - I feel as if a part of me has been put on hold for months. But that part of me, my creativity, is slowly coming back to life, waking from its slumber, yawning and stretching and getting ready to begin a new chapter.

So what's been happening? Well did I mention I had my baby? A beautiful baby girl, she arrived in the middle of August, very early in the morning and we were fortunate enough to have an amazing water birth together. Wow, just picturing it in my mind gives me goosebumps - it was the most life-changing experience I have had to date. I am irrevocably changed forever!

So motherhood has been a pretty amazing journey so far - we're 4 1/2 months in and I have been taken by surprise by how much I absolutely LOVE being a mum. Ok, so I'm sure most new parents think this, but I was worried I wouldn't be a good mum and that parenting wouldn't come naturally to me. I thought I'd want to jump straight back into work and leave the majority of care-giving to my partner, who is a child magnet (seriously, if there's a child within 10 metres of him, they are simply drawn to his big kind smile and sense of fun!).

But like I said, the birth of my daughter changed me irrevocably and guess what - the mother within me was born at the same time. And wow is she a powerful woman - I have been delightfully surprised by her absolute strength, her sense of calm and patience and the overwhelming unconditional love she has for her daughter. And suddenly all I want to do is stay at home and be the best mum I can be. Boy did that take me by surprise!

So suddenly, with this new desire to be a stay at home mum, I am faced with new choices and decisions to be made. How do I run a business at the same time?

Well, I'm not sure yet - I'm still trying to work that one out myself. That's what this blog is about - I wanted to share what was happening in my world instead of staying absent. I also wanted to share this thought... it came to me while I was feeding bub one night... it's not a new concept, however it was like this concept FINALLY sank in for me...

KINDNESS BEGINS IN YOUR OWN HEART - if you are kind to yourself, you will have a greater capacity to show kindness to others. Simple yet often so hard to do - why are we such harsh critics of ourselves? Here I was, beating myself up for not working on my business enough when I had this realisation and it allowed me to just let go and allow my creativity and motivation to come back on its own, when it was ready, instead of shaming myself and trying to force it back. And suddenly, I wake up this morning and here I am, ready to start a new day. Amazing.

So I must dash now, I can hear my little girl waking up from her nap - it's time for some cuddles!

Shoulder detail - Ciao Meow is loving this trend

Seriously, what is not to love about this utterly cool trend? Ok, I admit, I had my doubts about the resurgance of shoulder pads (if you've lived through the 80's, you need no explanation). However, when done well, they are fierce. And I don't use that term lightly!

Take this Bless'ed are the Meek Fringed Top for a perfect example - the style of the top is kept relatively simple - soft, beautifully draped charcoal grey jersey in a long-line Tee - easy. Then add the shoulder detail - hidden shoulder pads (only little ones, nothing scary) to give that sharp-shoulder sillouhette seen on catwalks and red carpets the world over, then add some black contrast to the top and finish with fringing. Voila - we have perfection. Fringing, by the way, is one of my all time favourite embellishments, it just looks fabulous when done well.

Which is why this deceptively simple little top has become my wardrobe staple - I wear it with everything! Leggings, jeans, skirts, shorts - it's just so easy & comfy to wear and always looks stylish. And best of all, it's stretchy, so accomadates growing baby bellies like mine :o)

The secret to remember when rocking the shoulder trend is keep it simple and streamlined so that the emphasis is on the shoulders and not competing for attention with other embellishments, clashing colours or wild accessories.

My new favourite Trench

Yes it was cold enough this morning to wear a trench - woohoo! You cannot BELIEVE how excited I was to don my gorgeous new Bless'ed are the Meek Black Studded Trench. Yum o Yum!

Slipping into those gorgeous sleeves was like slipping into the arms of a long lost lover! Ahhhh, then belting it up was a delicious embrace and voila! I am looking fabulous and urban-chic and utterly timeless in this perennial classic.

I did add some other clothes of course, namely Nookie Zeppelin Leggings (leggings are my ultimate winter staple) as well as my favourite deep purple Shona Joy Sargent Pepper Slouchy Tee (clearly comfort is key here, I am pregnant after all!). LOVE the shoulder detail on this top and it's long enough to wear with leggings (read as - covers your bum).

And, super exciting of all, I added boots - yes boots, it was cold enough for boots! Honestly, I was grinning like a crazy person to myself this morning as I got dressed... being able to wear some cool winter fashion seriously just made my day. Hey, I'm easy to please :o)

Hmmm, I wonder if it will be cold tomorrow? A whole weekend wardrobe to plan for - I better get to it!

My wardrobe staples for the long weekend

We just had a gorgeous long May day weekend up here in Queensland. Though I'm still aching for cool weather, even I couldn't deny the sunshine was just glorious. So I stopped my whinging and took advantage of our sunny days to enjoy the local sites here on the sunny coast. Went to the beach, shopped at local markets, dinner at a favourite bistro and brunched like it was my last day on earth!

Here's my fashion staples and what kept me in good fashion stead for the weekend...

Brunch on Saturday needed something a little warm as it was quite early, so the Nookie Pretenders Maxi dressed down with black sandals was perfect. Plus a stripe always makes me feel more Frenchy-chic, which suited almond croissants & cappuccino's at our local French Patisserie perfectly!

This light cotton Fleur Wood Africa Tunic was perfect for the beach and a walk through the national park, thrown casually on over my Fleur Wood Petit Four Bikini with denim cut-offs. Very casual-chic and super comfy, it's also essential to cover up in our hot Queensland sun, so was great to be able to roll down the sleeves when I needed to. To accessorise, I added some wooden beads, a fedora hat (sunsmart and very cool!) and some havaiana's - the staple footwear of the coast!

Ok, stripes and Little Black Dresses are a slight obsession for me, but they are such classic wardrobe staples, you don't have to over-think what you're going to wear and they always look fabulous. So needless to say, when it was time to go out to dinner on Saturday night (lovely little Italian bistro, YUM, does fabulous vegetarian food), I reached straight for one of my new favourite LBD's - the Fleur Wood Sixteen Candles Tutu Dress. How cool is this dress, seriously? Perfect for the coast too, as it's not so over-glam that you look totally out of place (casual-chic rules the day here). I simply added some black bejewelled sandals to add a casual element, a little flower to my messy up-do and my favourite Lisa Marinucci Black Onyx Pendant and I was ready to go.

Sunday was a perfect day to shop the local markets and I had the perfect dress to wear - the Sumakhi Blue Haze Cape Dress, belted at the waist as shown here with some comfy tan thongs and my fedora hat. Super comfy, light enough to not get too hot, but just warm enough to ward off the early morning chill. I just love this dress and once home, off came the belt and it turns into a caftan-style dress - uber comfy for chillaxing in! I love a frock that has multiple looks & functions - it's a multi-tasker!

So there you go, my perfect long weekend wardrobe - all thanks to my favourite designers at Ciao Meow. And today, it's back into work (I use the term loosely) in another comfy combo...

Yes, I know, stripes again! But this Baker Boys Jersey dress is so soft I can't resist. Worn with the Nookie Zeppelin Leggings adds a bit of a rock edge and then black ballet flats completes my need for easy comfort. I'd love to add some cool ankle boots, but hey, I work from home, so clomping around in heels in your own house all day really doesn't work! So flats it is and I'm happy with that.

What am I aching to wear?

I am blessed to live in gorgeous Queensland, beautiful sunny Queensland, by the beach. Yes, I am HUGELY grateful for this fact. However... let me just point out, that it doesn't get overly cold here. Therefore the changing of the seasons is not overly noticeable. I mean, we're over half way through Autumn and I've barely gotten out of cami's, shorts and singlet dresses!

This makes it incredibly hard for a girl who runs an online boutique who is literally SURROUNDED by all the stunning, luscious, snuggly new season winter warmies that I am just ACHING to wear! But it's too damned hot! And boots, did I mention boots? I want to wear BOOTS!!!

So, seeing as I can't physically wear them right now (without sitting in arctic style air-con, not really the environments best friend), I've decided to post up what I'd like to be wearing. Kind of like therapy for me, hopefully a little entertaining, maybe even a little wardrobe inspiring for you... I'll leave it up to you to decide.

What I'm aching to wear today...

Fleur Wood Pulp Fiction Jacket with Sumakhi Long Sleeved Low Back Stripe Dress

Yes my friends, this is what I'd be wearing today if the darned weather would just play along! This gorrrgeous jacket from Fleur Wood is made from wool, so its super warm and just tailored to perfection. The Sumakhi dress is a nice thick jersey (great to hold you in) and I have to say, am obsessed with stripes! I would then add some black opaques with my favourite gun-metal grey suede boots, purchased from my gorgeous friend Julie of Jules & Roc (great online store ladies!). And some gorgeous dangly earrings - I'll keep you posted, but have some gorgeous new jewels arriving from Melbourne label Oh Deer. Seriously cool and quirky - stay tuned.

Ahhh yes, it feels good to dream about it. Honestly, it does. Kind of like living vicariously through my blog. If I can't experience it physically right now, at least I can experience it cyberly (ok not sure if that's a real word, but it fits). So what are you wearing today? Brights are a fabulous style statement for the party season and coming from a gal who loves her LBD's, this is a huge admission! I can't help it though, brights have won me over this season and it's easy to see why... they're loud, they're proud and they're here to stay! Here are a few of my fave's...

Tali Roth - Silk Sweetheart Dress. Feminine, flirty and gorgeous - get ready to flutter your eyelashes!

Shona Joy - Side Frill Lace Dress. I love this - the lace is gorgeous and the beautiful frill detail around the shoulders is just stunning! One of my FAVE'S!!!

Bless'ed are the Meek Jenny Frill Skirt - This is for those who prefer a skirt and top combo. Gorgeous blue, almost bordering on purple, it's a stunning colour. Very versatile - wear it with a sexy slinky cami for night time glam and a simple singlet for day time chic. Great if you need to go from work to party.

Shona Joy Flamingo Lakes Cocktail Dress - also our pick of the week this week! This dress is for fashion-forward gals who love to stand out. A bustier style top with tulip skirt hugs all the right curves, while the colour combo strikes a modern pose that's sure to get you noticed.

Kuku Rosalie Ruffle Dress - ahhh this is beautiful, sexy and utterly chic! The gorgeous ruffle literally drapes right down the back to the hem, which is well above the knee creating a very sexy frock indeed. Be prepared to make an entrance in this stunning frock!

Bracewell Basics are my chill out staple

The November drop of Bracewell arrived on Friday with just a few little pieces from their Basic's range. As is customary, I like to try everything on first, to get a feel for the fabrics, cut, sizing and so on so I can write up a good description for Ciao Meow. So when I tried on the Sunday Pant, I thought I'd died and gone to pants heaven! Seriously, they have to be one of the comfiest, softest, most luscious chill out pants I have ever embraced! Other than Jeans, I am not really a pants girl, so this is huge for me.

So perhaps a pair snuck into my private collection (hey, a girl's got a right to new pants!) and before I knew it, I had worn them all weekend. Yes, that's right, ALL WEEKEND! To the markets on Saturday for fresh fruit & veg, to the local boutiques for a little bit of shopping, to coffee and to browse even more markets and boutiques on Sunday and then to chill out at home in on Sunday arvo with some organic corn chips and a very big glass of wine. They were just so comfy, I could not find anything else in my wardrobe to beat them in the comfort stakes! They are officially, my favourite new pants...

Why tops are an essential wardrobe staple

I love dresses, don't get me wrong, but I just can't wear a dress every day! I just can't, a girl needs her jeans, especially when she has numerous pairs that need regular outings. So comes the endless question - what to wear with said jeans (or cut-offs, depending on my mood!)? Thankfully, many luscious new tops have arrived for summer and I for one have ear-marked, well pretty much one of each for myself. Are all of these essential? YES of course! Just don't ask my partner - his section of the wardrobe is getting smaller by the day. Ooopsie!

So a few of my fave's from the recent arrivals, have a look-see...

Dew Kaftan - The divine Fleur Wood can't get it wrong in my book! This is truly a standout piece - something to throw on when you just want to feel fabulous! Wear it back with shorts for summer cool or jeans and heels for something a bit dressier.

Shona Joy Night Adder Trapeze Top - In a yummy peach print, it's one of my favourite colours for summer. Looks even better if you've got a golden glow (fake of course!). I love the versatility of this top - wear it loose to the buffet, belt it at the waist to add more shape or tuck it in - it really does look fabulous any way you wear it.

Shona Joy Night Adder Crop Top - Did you say Crop Top, I hear you ask! Yes, it's back but believe me, it's better than ever! This is just long enough to sit on the waistband of your shorts, skirt, jeans - take your pick, so it only flashes a glimpse of skin. Otherwise, wear a black singlet underneath. I love the colour and the off the shoulder look - very sexy in an 80's retro way. This top has attitude!

Bracewell Prairie Vest - So pretty! I love lace at the best of times, so when paired with a rockin 80's inspired vest, it's a dream come true! Looks great worn with a Tee and denim cut-offs for a bit of hippie luxe.

Bracewell Pure Spirit Cami - Ok this is a failsafe piece, something you will bring out again and again as it's just so classic and beautiful. Easily takes you from brunch, to the office, then out to drinks that night, with barely a dash of fresh lippie. That is real wardrobe talent! Love it with black.

Bracewell Wonderland Cami in Tea Party - A delicious mint apple green with tiny floral, I love this cami too! See, how to pick just one?? This is delightfully feminine and looks gorgeous with white or faded denim and the colour is just divine - perfect for Summer. Wear it with a blazer to the office and denim & sandals on the weekend.

Fleur Wood's timeless elegance

I will always love Fleur Wood. Do you know why? Because her inimitable style is timeless yet beautifully unique to her. Her collections are truly stunning and each season, when I have the glorious pleasure of viewing her coming collections, I oooh and ahhh over the beauty of each piece. Which is just fabulous though extremely difficult when trying to put an order together that's restricted by budget! Budget be gone I say!

Then there is the integrity in which she designs and manufactures, of which I am truly proud to support as a stockist. Not only does she donate a percentage of profits to an orphange in India (in which she previously volunteered), she also employs Indian artisans to help manufacture her collections (for work such as embroidery and beading), which helps keep alive the magic of their incredible talent and supports their community. This is one seriously cool woman!

Pair it back with nude heels (as per model), simple hair & accessories - you want to let this gorgeous dress speak for itself!

Shona Joy - Tahitian Affair Silk Kimono Dress

The gorgeous purple floral print is just gorgeous and perfect for Spring, the covered shoulders hints of conservative while the short hemline adds some sexy glamour.
Pair back with black/nude heels for a more subtle take or eye-popping yellow heels as per model (there's a beautiful touch of yellow in the floral that complements the heels)

Kuku - Bow Dress

Just a sweet, classic little frock that can do no wrong. Sweetheart neckline makes it very flattering, as does the full skirt, while the melon self tie sash adds a delightful splash of spring colour.

Bracewell - easy wardrobe essentials for Spring.

Having been in the industry for over 2 decades, Michael Bracewell knows a thing or two about women's fashion, delivering season after season delicious wardrobe essentials and simple basics, with loyal customers returning again and again for his classic style aesthetic.

His Spring 2009 collection doesn't disappoint, in fact, he get's it oh so right this season, with a fresh, perhaps dare I say, slightly younger take on the easy, relaxed, layering pieces he is renowned for. This sublime collection of essentials work back with multiple items in your wardrobe. And look equally fabulous on their own, for that matter!

Above are two of my favourites - the Memphis Fringe Dress in Grey, also available in black - equally gorgeous and a little dressier. I see this dress as an essential weekender - you'll find yourself wearing it constantly as it's so easy and comfortable. Pair it back with some summer sandals or flats (try some connies like the model), grab your sunnies and weekend bag (have you seen Kim Regan's handbags, below) and you're pretty much good to go. Just add a little cardi or vest (try the Draped Vest in cream, below) if there's still a chill in the air. And for those of you who don't like short dresses, wear it back with leggings or jeans (just scrunch it up a bit round the waist, looks great as a singlet too!).

Also on my hitlist is the Prairie Vest, with it's luxe take on woodstock hippie (very hot this season). Wear it back with shorts and a little Tee for summer - the vest adds instant glam to this simple combo. Or if you want to rock the look a little more, wear it back with dark jeans and a sexy little black top/singlet with some heavy metal accessories. It's all about adding your own style!

The Perfect Summer Tote

Is there ever really a perfect bag?

Hmmm, it's a ponderous question, one I have given much thought to. I'm thinking, no, seeing as changing bags according to outfits is like style is to the French (that would be second nature!). And really, so it should be, for variety is the paprika of life. Or something like that...

Which is why I love updating my handbag collection each season, and this Spring is no exception. So what am I choosing for my fashion foray into warmer weather?

Well, I'm loving a bit of print, a bit of bohemian luxe, some embellishment and somethin' a little different. Cue my picks (above).

New to Ciao Meow this season are Kim Regan Handbags, handcrafted and designed by the lovely Kim herself, who happens to be a very cool Interior Designer and all round super stylish lady we like to love! One of the many things I love about Kim's designs is the cool graphic print on each bag - you won't believe me, but each bag hosts a completely unique, one-off canvas print, hand-embellished with beads. That's right ladies, one-off, never to be seen again, print. Meaning - no one will ever have the same bag as you! Yeah, you read right, no one!

Which is why I love these bags. Being a perveyer of all things precious (in a totally non Gollum-like way, I promise!), I naturally had to have one (ok six) of these bags the minute I saw them. But I also very kindly shared them with my Ciao Meow friends (that would be you!), which I thought was very kind of me! But seriously, if you want a great style refresher for Spring and you're sick of having the same bag/clothes/accessories as the general pop, then log on now and grab yourself one of these exclusive designs. Blue - A perfect hue for Spring

Blue is such a gorgeous colour for Spring - it epitomises blue skies, warmer days and the gorgeous hue's of the ocean... hmmm, you can almost feel that warm sun and taste the salty goodness of a fresh swim! Perhaps that's why blue is such a feel-good colour - it reminds us of so many happy things and in colour psychology, it's a colour for calming and optimism. I love that! And what a fabulous way to inject some happiness into your every day, directly through your wardrobe (especially great if you're stuck in an office and there's no chance of that summery swim! doh).

Yet despite the fabulous associations to this special colour, I always thought blue didn't suit me. I always believed it was a colour exclusive to blonde's with blue eyes and gorgeous luminous skin. So me, being of the green eyed brunette with pale skin variety, always steered clear. However I have since learnt, much to my excitement, that it's all in the hue! Who knew? (No rhyme intended!)

So it seems, mid blues are much more for me (think soft chambreys & duck egg blues), while those gorgeous blonde girls look stunning in cold, crispy blues. Though really, they could pretty much get away with any blue and still look fabulous (yes ok, I'm a bit jealous). And what about those fiery flame haired stunners out there - I'd suggest you go for a more saphire, gemstone blue, even more beautiful if you've got blue eyes!

So you see, there really is a blue out there for everyone (c'mon, who hasn't got a pair of blue denim jeans or 10 in their closet?), and with so many happy associations to this gorgeous, versatile and super summery colour, how can you resist? So what are my picks for this luscious colour? Ciao Meow heads to Brisbane Fashion Festival

Well it was with much excitement that I frocked up and headed along to Brisbane Fashion Festival for the first Group Show, held in Brisbane City Hall. The venue itself was gorgeous and very grand, as were the attendees. Brisbane's fashion elite were out and boy was it fabulous fashion watching! Outfits varied from skinny jeans & cami's to cocktail frocks and long maxi dresses (somebordering on formal dresses)! All in all though, I am pleased to say Brisbanista's are on the whole, simply fabulous and if I do say so myself, very stylish!

So what did I wear? Well, it was a tough decision that came down to 2 Shona Joy Dresses - the Tahitian Affair Tank Dress and the Stranded Summer Tab Dress. In the end, the weather was a deciding factor - the Tank dress was to be worn back with a little black blazer, while the Summer Tab dress was to be worn on it's own. As Brisbane had a record breaking hot day for August, the Summer Tab dress won out! Not to mention I am very partial to a LBD. So I pared this deceptively simple dress back with some tan accessories - peep toe wedges, a leather cuff, Lisa Marinucci earrings and a vintage clutch. Make up was kept simple with a nice dark defined eye (actually was running extremely short of time, so had to be simple! Lucky it was my plan all along!). My dear friend and fellow fashion lover Mel, also attended and supportingly wore a gorgeous Ciao Meow dress, a Fleur Wood Vera Dress from a few seasons ago. With her blonde pixie cut and blue eye's she looked stunning, as usual. You can't beat a classic Fleur Wood.

So what about the show? Well it was glorious. Akira revealed his latest collection, which consisted of beautiful cobalt blue's, oranges and reds, mixed with blacks, creams and whites, long and flowing and draped to perfection. Feature flowers decorated the shoulders of these stunning models as they glided past in the sweetest red sandals. It was simply divine, as you'd expect from this talented designer. Then Carmague, a Brisbane boutique, showcased some of their best selling international designers including Dries Van Noten, Martin Margiela and more, which were of course, stunning, though a little more mature in taste. But fabulous none the less!

Then of course to conclude the show was Brisbane design duo, Easton Pearson. Now I am a huge fan to begin with and this show didn't disappoint. True to form, patterns, brights and kaftans ruled the evening and I was lost in a world of exotic poolside parties (well, that's where I was imagining wearing these delightful concoctions!). Gorgeous paisley prints, long flowing caftans, orange capri pants and leggings, ruffle dresses, printed singlets, bright waisted belts and embelished neckpieces draped loosley round the models, even hanging down their backs, stole the show for me. I was oohing and ahhing my little heart out!

All in all, it was a perfect evening, finished with a Napoleon Perdis gift bag (a nice new lip gloss in berry red) and a champagne at the Sebel bar (to conclude our fashion watch - my favourite was Kirsty Clements of Vogue Australia and the lovely ladies of Easton Pearson who looked divine in their own creations!) before ending the evening. My gorgeous Shona Joy dress held up very well in the style stakes, proving itself to be a modern take on a great classic - I was very proud to be representing Ciao Meow!

Ciao Meow welcomes latest designer protige Tali Roth to the fashion line up! Featuring a first collection consisting solely of dresses (and oh what dresses!), this young designer hits the mark with this seasons trends. Featuring one shouldered frocks, body con jeresey dresses, flirty frills and splashes of vibrant 80's inspired colour, there's a little something for everyone in Tali's debut collection!

Ciao Meow loves to support new homegrown Aussie talent. We love seeing a new designer bring in a fresh take on seasonal trends, whilst adding their own individual style stamp. Why do we love this?? Because it brings us more choice when we shop and the opportunity to enjoy wearing something unique and simply gorgeous, and NOT seen on 100 other girls!

Ciao Meow's New Blog

Welcome to the first Ciao Meow post!

It's exciting times at Ciao Meow - we've just relocated to the Sunshine Coast (Miss Ciao Meow needed a sea change!), we've got a newly refreshed homepage on the way (with some fab extra functions, including Gift Vouchers - ladies, Christmas is coming, it's time to drop hints!) and it's Spring (well, almost!). And with Spring comes warmer weather and gorgeous new arrivals in the world of ladies fashion! Ahhh, I love the start of a new season... and Spring just happens to be my favourite.

It's easy to see why, with the gorgeous bursts of colour arriving, fresh florals, bohemian luxe accessories, long flowing maxi dresses, silky loose Kaftans (I think this is my new favourite 'trend to try'! See pic) and fun flirty party frocks arriving from my favourite designers.
